ESPN STAR to telecast 2010 Winter Olympics  ( July '23,2008, Hindu Business Line)

ESPN STAR Sports has acquired the rights for the cable and satellite television rights for the Vancouver 2010 and London 2012 Olympic Games for 22 countries across the Indian sub-continent and South-East Asia.

The rights acquired from the International Olympic Committee also allows ESS simultaneous transmission on IPTV and mobile TV.

Golden moments

With 200 hours of coverage for the London 2012 Olympic Games and over 60 hours of coverage for the 2010 Winter Games, the broadcaster is also promising top class games-based programming and showcasing golden moments.

Partner with IOC

“We are extremely pleased to partner with the International Olympic Committee.

“This is the first time that IOC has awarded the rights to a pay TV platform across this region and it is a testament to our commitment of reaching out to a wide audience base across Asia with the most interesting and compelling programming,” said Mr Manu Sawhney, Managing Director, ESPN STAR Sports, in a statement.

Quality coverage

“We are delighted to welcome ESPN STAR Sports to the Olympic movement.

“Their support will enable us to provide high quality coverage of the Vancouver and London Games to Olympic fans and help to promote Olympic sports across the region,” added the IOC Executive Board Member, Mr Richard Carrión.
