TVS Motor's June sales vault, exports at all-time high  ( July '3,2006, ET)

Boosted by a 24% growth in motorcycles, two-wheeler major TVS Motor has sold over 1.26 lakh units in June ‘06, compared to 1.08 lakh units during June ‘05.

As many as 74,683 motorcycles were sold last month (60,170). This is the third successive month in the current fiscal where motorcycle sales at TVS Motor are up by over 20%.

During June ‘06, strong performances by TVS Star in the entry-level segment and Apache in the premium segment helped the overall growth in the motorcycle segment.

Continuing its high growth curve, Apache, in the short span since its launch, has become the No 2 brand in the premium segment.

TVS Scooty continues to be the market leader in the sub-100 cc scooter segment, recording a sales volume of 25,227 units in June ‘06 (22,829). On the export front, TVS Motor exports reached a new landmark by crossing the 10,000 mark.

It exported 10,220 units, it’s highest ever, in June ‘06, recording a growth of 36% compared to the corresponding period last year.

The company, the flagship of the $2.7bn TVS Group, is the third-largest two-wheeler manufacturer in the country and among the top ten in the world, with an annual turnover of over $750m. It is a recipient of The Deming Prize for Total Quality Management.
