Mahindra unveils Champion Alfa in Punjab  ( June '22,2006, BS)

Mahindra and Mahindra launched its 500-cc three-wheeler cargo vehicle, the Champion Alfa, in Chandigarh today.

The Champion Alfa is a smaller load variant (0.5 tonne) of the 0.75 tonne three-wheeler. This was the Champion Alfa’s first launch in the north.

The zonal head (north) of Mahindra and Mahindra, automotive sector, Gaurav Saxena, said the vehicle would be available all over India by October-end.

According to Saxena, the western states are the major markets for this vehicle. "But Punjab is an important market for us as this vehicle will be very useful for those who trade in perishable goods like fruits, vegetables, milk and milk products," said Saxena.

The intra-city movement of three-wheelers was more cost effective, he added. He said the vehicle could give a mileage of 28-30 km per litre of diesel.

The company sold 6,000 vehicles till April and expects to register a sale of 25,000 vehicles across India by the end of this financial year.

Saxena said the USP of this model was that it was designed in consonance with customers’ aspirations.

Features like wide and tall cabin with cross ventilation, four-point wheel mountings, and multi-focal reflector for brighter lights for night driving have been added.
