BBC World to launch series on unusual Indian biz  ( July '5,2003, HBL)

BBC World will start a 13-episode series profiling some unusual businesses in India, which will be a part of its popular programme Business Bizarre. The programme would be aired on Sundays at 11 a.m.

According to a press release, the first episode will feature Mr Anant Pai, Editor, Amar Chitra Katha, who is going to talk about how he made a success story out of the comic series, which started in 1967, with an annual circulation of less than 60,000 copies, and later went up to 3.5 million copies annually.

Among the other businesses to be profiled would be SEWA, which is an organisation of poor, self-employed women who earn a living through their own labour and small businesses. Also featured in this series will be companies such as Amul, the big white of the Indian dairy revolution, as well as the Himalaya Drug Company. The show will also feature Nalli, the market leader in silk saris.
