ColorPlus targets premium segment with Purple Club range of menswear  ( June '22,2001, FE)

The Rs 54-crore Chennai-based apparel company, ColorPlus, has announced the launch of a super-premium menswear brand ‘Purple Club’. The new range is expected to make up five per cent of the company’s projected turnover of Rs 70 crore in a year’s time.

“Purple Club is targeted at buyers looking for premium quality and superior finish,” said Mr Rajendra Mudaliar, managing director, ColorPlus Fashions at the launch press conference of the new line in New Delhi on Thursday.

The suits, priced in the range of Rs 9,500 to Rs 13,000, will be available at select ColorPlus outlets across the country. ColorPlus has 15 exclusive outlets of which five are company-owned. The Purple Club shirt range is priced between Rs 1,900 and Rs 2,900 and the trousers are available Rs 2,200 upwards.

Purple Club shirts are made from long staple, fine count cottons; trousers from fine cotton and Merino wool, and for the first time, suits that are crafted out of Australian Merino wool.

The company will run a campaign in the print media for Purple Club. The campaign will be handled by Chennai-based Rubecon, which has the account for ColorPlus.

For the new range, ColorPlus has entered into a sourcing arrangement with the Uniworth Group of the Lohias. “The company decided to go in for sourcing rather than manufacturing on its own because the expertise and the investment involved in the manufacture of premium woollen suits and menswear is quite high,” said
Mr Mudaliar.
